China Update 180918

Dear Kingdom Partners,

You must have heard of the recent widespread crack downs on the house churches in China. This is not fake news! China is going back to the iron-wrist policy era. I still remember the days that I smuggled Bibles into China. The days when I was escorted from the ferry with other passengers to the checkpoint on the shore by armed soldiers. The days when the pastor told me that our Gospel team had to leave because the police just came into the church building, were days that many people had already thought was a thing of the past.  But they were sorely mistaken. Many naively and optimistically thought that China would let churches enjoy more freedom and spread the Gospel in China, but in reality, China has been gradually and systematically taking away their religious freedoms by embedding a much stronger control on churches and shaping the Christian churches to be their tools in promoting communism, and strengthen the governing leadership of the communist party. Recently, government workers (civil and military) were mandated to declare if they are atheists or Christians. If they indicated that they were Christian, these workers had to declare that they were naively tricked into joining the church. The government later implemented another policy that took this situation to the next level. These government workers are now required to denounce their faith in Christ. This declaration form also have to be signed by their family members. School students also need to declare their religion and their parents’ religion. Many teachers are also now pressuring their students in declaring that they are atheists for the sake of the school’s reputation and their future. I was also told that a school had over two hundred students declared to be Christians at first, but finally only one dared to say so in his declaration form.

Churches are now singing the Chinese revolutionary song for worship, praising the nation’s leaders and placing their portraits right next to the cross. Ironically, they placed Chairman Mao and Chairman Xi’s portraits on each side of the cross. We do remember who were hanging side by side with Jesus on the cross! Hopefully at least one of them will repent and be saved!

The present development on church crackdowns in China helps us to realize more of God’s wisdom and guidance. He put the Chinese university students in our hearts almost two years ago and lead us to develop it into a ministry with the help of Queenie, Hannah and Lemuel. We just had a welcome back to school party a couple weeks ago for them and this past Monday (9/24), we also had a Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival party for the university students and the Chinese church. Our hope and prayer is that they will become Christ’s followers and take the Gospel back to China!

I am heading back to Hong Kong and China again on 9/25 for three weeks. During this critical time, our co-workers in China are in need of our counsel and help. Many of them have no experience in a time like this. Forgive me for I cannot reveal too much details on this update. Please cover us with your prayers! I believe God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. How He had watched over us in similar situation in China and allow the Gospel to spread even in the most difficult of times, He will do so again! Praise Him!

Over forty police and village security came to close this church a few months ago. The congregation divided into small groups to meet at home. This gave them opportunities to attract surrounding neighbors to come and hear the Gospel. Two weeks ago, they sneaked back to the church backyard on a weekday and baptized two new converts!

Thank you again for your prayers and financial support! May you share our information wisely and carefully. We do not want to add more turmoil and sufferings to our brothers and sisters in China. “May the Lord bless you and protect you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace!”

We now have our own Postal mail box. Any correspondence and supports can be sent to C2C Ministries, PO Box 16429, Hooksett, NH 03106. Thanks again!

Yours in Christ,
Wing and C2C Team
